A first message often goes unanswered simply because it arrived at a busy moment. A short, polite follow-up gives the person a second chance to reply. Below are templates for the most common situations. Replace the parts in square brackets before you send them.
Before you send
▸Keep it short: two to four sentences are enough.
▸Ask one clear question, so replying takes a moment.
▸Wait three to five working days between messages.
▸Stop after two follow-ups and leave the door open.

When to send: Three to five working days after your first message.

Your last follow-up
When to send: About a week after your previous follow-up.
Hi [Name], I don't want to fill your inbox, so this is my last message about the [Role] position. If you'd like to talk in the future, I'd be glad to hear from you.
Sales
After they accept your connection request
When to send: One or two days after they accept.

When to send: The same day or the next day.

The prospect has gone quiet
When to send: About two weeks after your last contact.
Hi [Name], I wanted to check in on [topic] we discussed. Has anything changed on your side? If now isn't a good time, just let me know and I'll get back to you later.
Remembering to follow up with LinkTrack
1. Save the person
Open their LinkedIn profile, click "Get details" in the Chrome extension, then "Save to LinkTrack".
2. Set a reminder
Pick the date for your follow-up. LinkTrack reminds you by email, in your browser and in the extension.
3. Copy and send
On the Individual and Team plans, message templates fill in the person's name, title and company. You copy the message and send it yourself on LinkedIn.
LinkTrack does not send messages on LinkedIn for you. It reminds you when it is time and keeps the person's notes and history in one place.
How long should I wait before following up on LinkedIn?
Three to five working days after your first message is a common choice. After a meeting or an interview, follow up within one or two days.
How many follow-up messages should I send?
One or two are usually enough. If there is still no reply, send a short final message that leaves the door open, and stop there.
Does LinkTrack send these messages for me?
No. LinkTrack does not send messages or connection requests on LinkedIn. It reminds you when to follow up, and on paid plans it gives you message templates to copy.
Is it free?
The free plan includes up to 25 contacts and 5 active reminders, with no credit card required. Message templates and Smart Follow are on the Individual and Team plans.
